Profile
U-Zyn Chua is a seasoned technology entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in software engineering, open source software, cybersecurity and AI-driven solutions. He has co-founded and advised multiple technology ventures, and has served as CTO and technical consultant to global corporations, government agencies and startups, helping them design and implement robust, secure and scalable digital platforms.
He was the lead architect behind Sand Dollar, the world’s first retail Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), developed for The Central Bank of The Bahamas and launched nationally in 2019. In 2016, he was appointed Singapore’s first Smart Nation Fellow, working with GovTech to drive open technology initiatives. His contributions to technology and innovation have been recognised in Tatler’s Gen.T List (2018) and Bloomberg Businessweek Asia’s Top 25 Young Entrepreneurs (2007).
A long-time advocate of open source and the open web, U-Zyn pioneered some of Singapore’s earliest independent web experiences, including Ping.sg, a leading local blog aggregator launched in 2006. His current work spans architecting AI-enabled systems, advancing practical cybersecurity, and reviving the foundational principles of an independent, open and user-centric web.
Beyond his entrepreneurial work, U-Zyn is an angel investor and mentor to technology startups. He regularly shares his perspectives through writing and speaking engagements on technology, AI, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship and open source software.
